My story

How a stressed teenager, a burnt-out mum of two and a 60-something who’s as strong as an ox turned out to be the same person.

Aged 18 The first class

Already stressed, one year out of school.

Long hours, migraines and a severe stammer that held me back as a young woman. Then my beautiful mother ushered me along to a yoga and meditation class.

“You’ll feel so much better.”

And of course, I did. Thank you, Mum.

In my 40s Running on empty

Married, two children, a high-powered job, and a total wreck.

My practice had faded to nothing. The migraines were back, with an irregular heartbeat, digestive problems, a bad back and no time to myself at all. I knew something had to change, and Mum’s voice came back to me.

“You’ll feel so much better.”

The turning point Twice a week, every week

Time is my life.

Regular yoga brought back balance, then strength, then courage. I left the high-powered job, worked fewer hours and spent more time with my kids. Not so rich in my pocket, but so much richer in my heart.

2009 Learning to teach

I trained so I could share it.

Watching students blossom from within and rediscover who they really are is a true honour. It still is, every single week.

Now In my 60s, in Scotland

Healthy back, steady heart, and what migraines?

I moved to my little piece of heaven on the west coast of Scotland. Life still gets busy, but I meet it from a place of calm. I imagined living that way, and it came true.
